The response to creating a child-care centre considers the light, colour, threshold and children’s propensity to pretend and role-play.
The design is based on a ‘wave’ theme, as the site is closely located to the beach. The differing ceiling heights of the space gives each part of the building ample natural light. Every homeroom has access to an outdoor garden, which are nature-based play areas that provide plenty of natural light. Abstract ‘wave’ forms were cut out of 350mm walls, in order to turn them into interactive objects for the children to sit, lie and play.
We combined the above factors to design a unique learning environment.
